Hi Catherine, The name R A Mulholland appears twice in the back row of the school group. This is my father's cousin's child Rose Ann Mulholland. there was a query over the name in the previous photo. Do you know who supplied this new information and is it possible to know which one is Rose Ann? best wishes, Patricia Evers
Hi Patricia, I'll check that out for you. I got the photo from Oliver Moore and I will check with him. Good to hear from you. Catherine

CHILD HOOD MEMORIES

My mother and her brothers lived at 10 Barrack Hill Laurencetown. My mother's name was Rose McCaffrey and I am number 4 in a family of six. My mother was Catholic and my dad was Protestant. We went to Waringstown Primary School and because of our mixed religious background we were given larry dooly. It was a tough time for us. But as children we all have very fond memories of our aunties and uncles who lived in Laurencetown. They were very good to the Cairns children. Especially Uncle Tony and Aunty Betty and Aunt Mary Anne. I love visiting this site as it takes me back home to a place I often feel very homesick for. Love your web site. xxxoo Kay Cairns
Thanks Kay - I am working hard on your family tree for you - there were a lot of McCaffrey's! Be in touch soon. Catherine

Hi Catherine just want to say thank you for all the lovely photographs you took of Ruairi and Maria's wedding day. You did us all proud and keep up the good work. It was a great celebration.
I'm glad you liked them Dolores - it was great to see all the O'Dowds again - and all looking so glamorous and handsome.

Laurencetown was the home of my mother Rose McCaffrey. Her faher was Thomas McCaffrey and they lived at 10 Barrack Hill. I love looking at the photos as it brings back such memories. I was a very young child back then but I still remember. This is a most wonderful site. I wonder what happened to Barrack Hill and the old houses there?
Thanks Kathleen Barrack Hill is still there, but the appearance has changed somewhat with some lovely private dwellings there now. Were you born in Tullylish yourself?

Congratulations to Dan Lennon on carrying Olympic flame. Nobody is more worthy to carry that flame than him. I remember the day he won the all Ireland marathon. To come out of school and be told that someone from your town had won the all Ireland marathon was great news. Banbridge rejoiced. Once again Dan you done us proud.
Thanks Len - we were all very proud and pleased for Dan.

Thanks ever so much for the pictures on " Memories." I think my Dad ( Hugh Patrick Finnegan) is in one of them! He's photographed with another man in old soccer gear! Note the knee-high soccer boots! Could you find out the owner of this photo and e-mail it to me. Love all the snaps from Gilford, Catherine, and it sure resurrects old sweet memories!!! Thanks again, Paddy F.

Just as a point of interest - Reuben was the eldest of the children of Israel With Simeon and Levi the next in line Naphtali and Isaachar with Asher and Dan Zebulun and Gad took the total to nine Jacob, Jacob and sons, Benjamin and Judah, which leaves only one Jacob, Jacob and sons, Joseph - Jacob's favourite son 11 I think you'll find - NOT 10!!!! Not that the 1 point would have made much difference!!!
I know Lynn - every team had the same answer so thankfully overall the final results would have been the same. Jacob did have 12 sons called afrter the twelve tribes of Israel. It was a great night anyway - thanks to Paul and yourself rescing the situation with the mikes! Any chance of you doing the next one?
Mrs Derby's Mass
by Nora Jordan from Laurencetown

The children from Gilford Primary School sang at Mrs Derby's mass this morning. It was a beautiful mass and the children's voices made it a very special occasion to remember. Congratulations to a wonderful choir and a happy retirement to Mrs Derby.
Thanks Nora. The choir were certainly magnificent.

Hi Catherine, I have just read the interview with Jim Byrne - fantastic!! I just love to hear Jim singing and he is such a lovely person but I had no idea he has lead such an interesting life! It is a great idea to celebrate the achievements and talents of our parishioners and who better than Jim to start with! I will look forward to the next interview but again well done with Jim's and well done Jim. Just a quick thought to finish - Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wrote - "God sent his Singers upon earth With songs of sadness and of mirth, That they might touch the hearts of men, And bring them back to heaven again." Do you think he was describing Jim???
Thanks Lynn - it was a joy to interview Jim and it could have gone on for another week, but he has promised to update it as he recalls more memories. Love the poetry as well Lynn - very suitable!
