Letter from Sr. Bernadette Print

Dear Canon Powell and Parishioners
I take the liberty to write to you in the face of the global pandemic that continues to spread throughout the world.
It makes me question, what is God saying to us all at
this time?
And there will be a thousand answers to this question.
My response is varied but deep down I don’t know. In the light of uncertainty and looming fear of sickness and death that can knock on any door soon, I wish to share with you a few
thoughts:
Our human response could be to think it’s probably not as bad as the media makes it… well we don’t know and therefore we need to take all the necessary precautions.
Additional this being the time of Lent it can be a call to identify our suffering and sicknesses with Jesus’ journey to the Cross. We are called to Hope in the face of uncertainty and death.
“Somethings are only cast out through fasting and prayer”, Matthew 17:21 and this can be our response to the pandemic.
I invite you to join with me and the church to pray the Rosary on the Feast of St Joseph, 19th March (next Thursday) at 19h00 or another suitable time for you and entrust this pandemic into the hands of St Joseph and Our Lady.
As you pray the Rosary, you are invited to place a lighted candle in the window of your home as a way of being visibly united with all who pray. Please invite your families and friends to join us too.
You may wish to pray the prayer below:
St. Joseph, faithful follower of Jesus Christ, to you do we raise our hearts and hands, to implore your powerful intercession in obtaining from the Sacred Heart of Jesus all the helps and graces necessary for our spiritual and physical lives and
the special favour we now implore for the eradication of the Coronavirus. We trust in your protection. We trust in your healing and care.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen
Yours sincerely
Sr Bernadette Duffy
