Dear Catherine at along last I get a breather to send you some info regarding the money donated to SA during my home leave.  This was a request from a local priest.  He is a close friend of the Holy Cross Sister as he grew up as a child and young boy in our orphanage.  Later in life he joined priesthood.  Since he was a boy of 12 years I have mentored him through his life journey.  Today we remain good friends.  He is living in a very remote area in the North West diocese.  The diocese has been without a bishop for a long time and only last fortnight was a new bishop consecrated for the diocese.  It was a great occasion for us all.  Fr Vusi asked me a long time ago before I went home if I could get him some help to erect a couple of toilets at the church.  I said I would try.  Hence from the money collected he was given R20,000 to build the toilets you see in the photos.  He was delighted with the project.  On completion he sent me the information below.  His joy was short lived when one morning shortly after the completion of the toilets he went out to find someone had stolen all the pipes.  He was furious.  Since then he had to get pad-locks to secure the building.  He remains grateful for all your kindness.
We are getting great rains this season and the country is looking great.
Be in touch with love and prayers Bernadette

Dear Sr. Bernadette

I thank you on behalf of your home parish, Tullylish, for your kindness in donating the generous amount of R20,000 towards the building of new toilets at our St. Peter’s Catholic Church.  For a long time the existing toilets have been in dire need of repairs.  I have kept the old toilets and have built two new ones for the ladies.  Everybody is happy now.

Yours sincerely

Fr. Vusumuzi

Sr B Thank you

Dear Sr. Bernadette,
We would like you to convey our deep appreciation to all your friends in the Tullylish Parish back in Ireland for their contribution towards our baby home.
Here we continue to be very busy. We have 75 children at the moment. They are all lovely and we continue to enjoy our work with them. Although I think at times we work a little too hard. My daughter, Pippa is suffering from burnout at the moment and needs a few months rest. To date we have placed 850 babies into wonderful, loving adoptive families.
Here is a picture of little Camilla. She is one of our newborn babies. Her mother put her into the “Hole in the Wall” which is a ministry that allows mothers to put their babies into a hole in their wall. There is a little bed inside and somebody is always on duty. When the babies are collected there, they call us and we fetch the babies from them. We have received many in this way.
TLC Camilla

Camilla is a little treasure.

She is developing beautifully and is being prepared for adoption.

This process will take about 4 months.

I thought you would probably like to hear a real story about a baby and how they proceed along our timeline until they arrive at their new families.

It is always bitter-sweet to see them go but I do keep in touch with each little one and when they are older they usually come to visit me and to see where their tender roots began.

This is also always a great privilege for me.

Thank you once again for your support.

God bless you!

Warm regards and gratitude!

SPORTSGROUND

Dear Catherine attached is the thank you letter and some photos of the sports ground at our rural primary school in Eastern Cape.  This is a very old school which the Holy Cross Sisters have run for over a hundred years.  I work down there about 3 or 4 times a year.  It is a poor school which educates many African children.  It is a challenging area to work.  Sr Bridget is the Principal and does a great job.  she explains the project in her letter and will keep you up to date with progress.
Many blessings
Bernadette

Dear Friends of Tullylish Parish

It is with deepest appreciation that we extend a big thank you for your kindness in donating R70,000 for the needs of the children in Plastic View Settlement, Pretoria.  After Sr. Emmanuel (former matron) died I was mandated to continue the project at the Settlement.  This was a mammoth task for me as I had previously worked at our old age home in Aliwal North.  I am deeply aware and most grateful for the many years that you have supported Plastic View.  Sr. Bernadette has told of your involvement and how you have donated so generously.  We are now in the process of building a small but proper school building for the continued education of our children.  Your kind donation will go towards that building.  I will send photos later.  We also thank you sincerely for an additional R20,000 donated to Holy Cross Frail care Home.  The R20,000 will go towards the purchasing of 30 new hospital beds for our residents.  They are bed-ridden and need 24/7 quality care.  New beds will make their stay more comfortable.  Please be assured of our ongoing prayers for each of you in the parish and for all the hard work of the TLC ladies.  Sr. Bernadette often talks about the work you all do and the support and ongoing care she receives from the people of Tullylish.

Yours sincerely
