In memory of Malachy Burns |
Malachy Burns 1948 - 2019 Malachy was born in Dechomet on 9th July 1948, the third child of Patrick and Mary Burns. It was around 1953 when the family moved to Leitrim and Malachy attended the primary school in Magheramayo before progressing to St. Malachy’s Secondary School in Castlewellan. He had a passion for motorbikes and his sister Patricia used to plead with him to bring her up to ‘the Windy Gap’! A carpet fitter by trade, Malachy worked for Wilson’s in Newcastle and the Harbour Guest House before starting his own taxi business. In his latter years he enjoyed gardening and a bit of decorating. A couple of years ago he had triple by-pass surgery.
Malachy moved to Miller Park 25 years ago and was a popular resident. Neighbours and friends all attest to the fact he was a gentleman and never had a bad word to say about anyone. Malachy always had a pleasant word to say to anyone he met on his trip to the town and he will be sadly missed in Laurencetown. Our deepest sympathy to his brother Kevin, sister Patricia and entire family circle.
