In Memory of Elizabeth Johnston, Gilford,
1927-2021
Elizabeth was born Elizabeth McCusker in Ballela on 10th September 1927 into a family of 12.
She left school at an early age and went to train to be a housekeeper starting her first job in the Quail's family home in Lenaderg.
Following this she went to work in Gilford Castle where she met and married her husband the local postman Samuel Johnston.
She was blessed with two children, Samuel and Mary. Her life revolved around her family.
Four years later her life changed when Samuel her husband died suddenly leaving her a widow at the age of 28., something she never got over.
She then took up employment at the Sinton's home in Moyallan until the death of Mrs Sinton. From then her good friend and neighbour, Oliver Moore, got her a job with the Metal Box Co. Portadown where she worked until her retirement.
Her hobby was baking her famous apple tarts, cherry pies and quiches to name but a few.
Unfortunately due to ill health in later life she spent the last 5 years in Aughnacloy House in the excellent care of the staff who thought the world of her, especially Caitlin, who had a great relationship with her.
