In Memory of Jackie Catney

In Memory of Jackie Catney.

Jackie was born in 1937 to John and Sarah Catney.

He met his beloved wife Pauline when his good friend Leo McEvoy (Pauline’s cousin) gave her a spin on his motorbike, where Jackie was waiting round the corner to ask her on a date.

They married in 1960 and Jackie was a devoted husband for over 66 years.

His faith meant everything to him and Pauline and he attended daily Mass up until he became ill.

He was a very generous donor to our parish.

Jackie had many jobs during his working career from lorry driving to being a bus driver first with Sureline and then with Ulsterbus from where he retired.

Jackie made many good friends everywhere he worked and it is testament to the lovely person he was that these friendships continued until his death.

For leisure Jackie loved caravanning and Pauline and he spent many happy times in Galway.

They also loved to go to Knock every year.

They loved enjoying the craic with anyone they met and who didn’t mind spending an hour or two listening as Jackie loved to talk!

He will be sadly missed by all his family and many friends he made during his life.

On Monday morning he passed away in Daisy Hill hospital.

May his gentle soul rest in peace.
