St Patrick’s College – School bank challenge 2016
St Patrick’s College students recently took part in the First Trust Bank School Bank Challenge which took place in The Hillgrove Hotel, Monaghan on the 22nd February 2016. The challenge is an initiative which encourages secondary schools across Ireland to open and run their own bank for a year. In each participating school, a team of six student ‘bankers’ adopt specific Bank roles and are tasked with running their own business designed to encourage classmates to explore new ways to bank and save. Throughout the challenge the students were judged on their overall business plan and their effective use of technology, customer engagement and marketing strategies.
AIB Youth Ambassador and Kerry All Star Colm Cooper was in attendance and congratulated the pupils on their creativity and innovation shown on the day with regards to exhibitions, promotional activities used and presentations
Unfortunately, facing stiff competition from 31 other schools, ‘Treasure Island Bank’ were unsuccessful and did not come away with any prizes. However the Year 13 team were successful in opening a number of accounts in school for the pupils. This team of young students can be proud of their achievement, as they produced an excellent business plan, delivered a professional presentation and had a very eye catching exhibition on display. As well as this the team ran a number of promotional campaigns throughout the year, which raised funds in excess of £100 which is being donated to ‘Saint Vincent De Paul’.
The team members were – Rebecca King, Amy Peake, Claire Lavery, Sean McAvoy, Conor McKeown and Paul Morgan.
