On Wednesday 16th July, Armand Gaillard (Stage Aid) presented Sr. Bernadette Duffy with a cheque for £1,000 for her work in South Africa.
Sr. Bernadette said she will spend this money on educational resources for an all black children's primary school in Aliwal North.
Answering questions from the group, Sr. B. spoke about how she left Tullylish at 20 years of age, had to learn 3 different South African languages and face many difficulties and challenges over the last 29 years.
During those years she has lived mainly in shanty towns among the poor, teaching in their schools.
Now based in Johannesburg, her work in education takes her to many different places - some 7 hours by car!
