CONFIRMATION AT LAURENCETOWN
On Tuesday the Most Rev. Dr. O’Neill, Lord Bishop of Dromore paid his annual visitation to the parish of Tullylish. At two o’clock in the afternoon the children of the entire parish, to the number of 84, took up their respective places in St. Patrick’s Church, Laurencetown, where they were examined on the doctrines of the Church. The quick and ready answering of the children, the neat and tasteful manner in which they were attired, together with their respectful and reverential demeanour, called forth the admiration of those present. His Lordship, expressed himself highly pleased with the knowledge and ability displayed in the answering, and congratulated Rev. Father Campbell P.P.; Rev. Father Byrne, C.C., and the teachers on the skilled and careful tuition which the children had received. On Wednesday his Lordship celebrated 9 o’clock Mass, and delivered a powerful and instructive sermon to a crowed congregation, A great number of the children received Holy Communion after which the Sacrament of Confirmation was administered and the total abstinence pledge given until they have attained the age of 21 years.
