The Annual Collection for the Dromore Diocesan Youth Commission will be taken up on the weekend of the 21st and 22nd May.
Funds raised from this collection are used to support the work of our Diocesan Youth Director and Parish volunteers. Together they offer our young people the opportunity to participate in action packed activities that aim to enable our young people to grow in faith; to address issues that are particular to them as young people, plus local and global issues i.e. justice and peace - both relevant in this year of Mercy. Key to their work is the formation of small faith communities through which they facilitate the Pope John Paul II Award and the GIFT programme - the Growing In Faith Together programme.
They offer a School Retreat Experience to most of our Post Primary Schools. Presently 50 young people and their leaders are preparing to travel to Poland for World Youth Day with Pope Francis, 50 others will attend a Summer Camp in Cork, 60 young people will attend a Summer Camp in Newcastle and another 50 will participate in a Pilgrimage to explore the life and faith of St Patrick by climbing Slemish Mountain, Croagh Patrick and a visit to Knock Shrine.
Core to Parish and Diocesan activities is the good will of volunteers. To sustain them in their role requires they are offered training, support and opportunities to further develop their own faith through times of prayer together.
Our young people are called to pass on the faith that they have been entrusted. We are all called to support them through our prayer and Christian lives - please contribute generously to the Diocesan Youth Commission Collection so that they can be ambassadors for the faith that we all cherish.
