Hi Catherine, I am delighted to say that I have received a very positive response from USA regarding the mill workers from here who settled in Greenwich USA when they went over to work in the new mill there in the 1880s. Here is the email received this week: Mr. Monaghan, Thank you for reaching out to our school. I am the Principal of our Junior-Senior High School. I am certainly interested in knowing more about how we might be able to create some connections for our children. I would like to know more about what you propose so that I can approach some of my teachers (likely our history teachers). Respectfully, George C. Niesz 7-12 Principal Greenwich Junior-Senior High School We intend to send them a copy of the Historical Society's DVD when it becomes available, -and take it from there.

That's brilliant John. The DVD is coming along nicely.

Colin Murphy RIP
by Yvonne Dowling from New Zealand
13. December 2012
Colin was my nephew, however I never actually met him but I had talked on the phone to him and also emailed him. Your memorial of Colin was helpful to me in knowing what a very good man he was and what he had achieved. When we talked on the phone he was more interested in things about me than in talking about himself. Thank you.

We are glad this has helped you Yvonne.

Dear Plunkett I received your recent book "The Glory of Bygone Days." I really enjoyed reading it. Trying to see who I could recognize from the photos brought me home for a short visit and it made Gilford Mill come back to life. Thank you. Sr. B

Congratulations to Plunkett Campbell on the hugely successful launch of "The Glory of Bygone Days." A terrific night and a great book which is a highly valued record of past times in our community. I have contacted a school in Greenwich USA regarding links with families who moved from this area to work in the linen mill set up there in 1879, and as they say..."If I hear of anything I'll let you know!"
Comment:
Thanks Master Monaghan - we all look forward to hearing of the link-up. Well done St. Colman's Bann!
